Happy New Year - from Comfy Chair Counselling
Hello from Comfy Chair Counselling!
~ January 2023
As we move from one year into the next, I wanted to take this opportunity to send a note of thanks to you, my clients. Thank you for inviting me into your lives and entrusting me with your personal challenges and triumphs. It is a rewarding honour to be able to sit with each of you, to witness your stories, and support you towards healing and growth. I look forward to continuing on this journey with you in 2023.
I also wanted to share with you some exciting opportunities happening with Comfy Chair Counselling and Realign Wellness Center for this year. So please, read on and feel free to share the links with friends or family if you are comfortable doing so!
Introducing – Comfy Chair Reflections (Blog):
Writing has often been an enjoyable pastime for me. So including a blog section on my website feels like a natural extension at this time. Posts will likely be sporadic, adding relevant content when the inspiration strikes. Follow Comfy Chair Counselling | Facebook or Realign Wellness social media (@realignwellnesscentre or Facebook) to hear about new postings.
Check out the first one here: Comfy Chair Reflections - 3 Cs of 2023
* Traditionally, the New Year is a time of setting resolutions. Goals that, for many, become forgotten or discarded as the days and months go by. If this reflects your experience of the past, I want to invite you to try something different this year. Rather than setting a concrete goal or resolution, why not try setting a more abstract focus or intention for the year!
Important Billing Information:
As many of you may remember, I began charging HST in January 2022. It is important to know that Psychotherapists in Ontario continue to advocate to the Federal Government for Mental Health services such as Psychotherapy with Registered Psychotherapists to be exempt from HST, as other health services and providers already are.
If you would like to learn more information about this issue, and to sign the petition in support of these efforts, you can do so here: #stoptaxingmytherapy
CONNECT with Groups:
You may remember last year I introduced Comfy Chair Book Club.
Our first series on Brené Brown’s Atlas of the Heart was a wonderful experience.
The group that met bi-weekly through the fall engaged in meaningful conversation and growth – and enjoyed it so much they decided to extend the series adding 2 more weeks!
I am now preparing for the 2nd Book Club series, set to start February 1st 2023, reading:
Attached. The new science of adult attachment and how it can help you find – and keep – love.
by Dr Amir Levine & Rachel Heller
Attached offers insight into attachment theory, and the 3 main attachment styles:
* Secure Attachment
* Anxious Attachment
*Avoidant Attachment
It explores how these styles impact the way we connect with those around us and offers helpful tips on how to better understand yourself and your partner, how to communicate and deal with conflict, even how to break-up if you realize the relationship isn’t what you want.
This practical and relatable guide is a must read for anyone looking to build deeper, more fulfilling relationships.
There are limited spaces available for this series – so email me today to sign up and take advantage of the Early Bird Price!

Coming Soon:
Hold Me Tight: Couples Retreats – based on the book of the same name by Dr Sue Johnson, focusing on similar perspectives and strategies I use in relationship therapy sessions. This could be a great way for couples to see if relationship therapy is for them; to learn about and begin to implement the concepts and strategies while on a waitlist; or as a refresher for those who have already engaged in relationship therapy in the past.
*Email me if you would like to be the first to know when these retreats are offered.
If you made it to the end here, then I thank you for reading! Feel free to reach out if you have any questions about the above information.
All the best to you,
Beth Ann
